Sabastian smiled at her as they walked to the exit of the maze. He was happy that they made it out, and happier that he could help someone, though he wasn’t sure if it was her helping him. Either way, it was good. Soon, they made it out of the maze. The air seemed much cleaner and it was a glorious site to see the courtyard that he had woken up in. “This is where I entered the maze in the first place.”
Sabastian looked around, the stones seemed less frightening now. “So.. now what” he asked, moving to the stone bench near by. He was getting tired and was just happy to be out of there. But he didn’t see any other people near by. What was going on?

Now that they were out, Susan started to feel the fatigue of not sleeping for almost two days. She slowly stumbled with him to the bench, her eyes dropping while she didnt say anything. She just wanted to lay her head down and sleep.
Already the cuts on her face were beginning to heal...

Sabastian sighed heavily as he sat on the bench. He couldn’t think very well, couldn’t remember what happened before. “Are you tired?” he asked, noticing her eyelids drifting closed. “We should find somewhere to sleep.. or something. How are the cuts? Do they still hurt?” he asked. This was such a strange place.

Susan nodded before leaning over, her head on his shoulder. She closed her eyes and felt like she wanted to just pass out. her hand in his loosed a little as she started to fall asleep. Closing her eyes made it painful on her cuts, and the scabs opened up and started to bleed, but she didnt care...

A silhouette emerged from the dark recesses of the shadows. Bright light seemed to emanate from him, blinding all who looked directly at the shadowy figure. The Angel of death refused to be seen by those within this island. He had promised the Angel Seraphim that he would not influence anyone on the island. it was an impossible oath to keep. The dead did not remember their deaths as they should. Things required explanation. Seraphim would need to understand that. "I am the Angel of Death. You, are the dead. I brought you here to entertain me. Many will arrive. Around that corner if a door which leads to a castle. There is a room which has been provided for you both. Food is provided in the dining hall, clothes will be in your rooms. Any other questions?" The angel of death needed to keep things quick. He would not influence them any longer.

Sabastian looked away from the light. It hurt to look into it. Susan was falling asleep. He knew that and knew that he might fall asleep soon too. Shaking her slightly he tried to wake her. She might have questions. Looking back in the direction of the angel, he sighed. “So, I’m really dead?’ he asked. “Why do you have a maze?” Sabastian didn’t wait for his answer before asking another question. “And..why us?”

Susan sat up when nudged. Her eyes grew huge when she saw the angel and she stood. Hearing what he had to say, her jaw dropped and she shook her head.
Completely interupting Sebastians questions, she rushed forward to the angel, "Oh no no no no! You dont understand!" She said waving her hand and taking on the professional buisness manner she'd always had when she needed to exhert authority.
"This does NOT work for me! I cant be dead! I have to finish my thesis! My cat needs to be fed! I have a LIFE to LIVE!"

The angel held out a shadowy hand, stopping her from coming closer. Stratigically ignoring most of Sabastian's inquiries. "I picked those who interested me. I will not reveal why. That is for you to figure out yourselves." The angel then turned towards the other being in the room. A female this time. She was the third of her gender on the island. He needed to pick more males. "You, female. You are deceased. I can not change that. It was your time to go. If you would like, I can remove you from this island, allowing you to go to the regular afterlife, if you wish." His voice was loud, final.

Sabastian stood too. He knew that this would be hard for Susan, but didn’t know how to make it better. “I’m sorry, Susan.” He said, quietly, moving towards her to offer comfort. He didn’t want to be dead either, but his distress seemed nothing compared to hers. He didn’t like seeing people sad and this was hard. He was kind of glad that the angel came to answer questions even though he didn’t seem to answer any of his.

Susans jaw dropped in a combination of horror and disbelief. She wasnt used to not having any real options. Of course she didnt want to go on to the after life. She wanted to get back to her normal life!
Even so, there was something about the angel that made all of the authority in her voice melt away so she could only just stare and shake her head.
She didnt even seem to notice Sebastians attempts to comfort her...

The angel nodded in finality. "If you do not have any other questions, I will be going." He announced, feeling the weight of a death pull at him. He needed to go bring the soul to its proper resting place.

Sabastian didn’t have anything else to ask. He looked round the courtyard. It was getting lighter. Maybe it was like earth. His stomach rumbled slightly then. He knew he was hungry and tired, and looking near the angel hurt his eyes. He didn’t think that the angel would say anything else, but was concerned for Susan still. Even though she was the only one he had met here and didn’t want her to leave, if she wanted to, it would be her decision.
He then realized that she wasn’t going to ask to go to the after life. The thought made him smile a little. “Are you alright, Susan?” he asked quietly. He didn’t want to startle her, since she seemed to have forgotten about him being there.

Susan was still in shock. She'd never have her life again. Never have her family, never have her cat. Nothing! Everything had been a big waste!
"Wait!" She said suddenly just as the Angel dissapeared, but it was too late!
She head Sabastian ask her if she was alright and she shook her head, covering her eyes with her hands, her cuts now just barely scars.
It was taking everything she had inside her not to cry...

Sabastian frowned at her. She was taking this hard. She must have had a good life to want to go back to it. Sabastian hadn’t really thought that it would be possible for someone to want to go back. But that was because he didn’t have a good life. But things were always getting better, Sabastian had to remember that.
“Its alright. I’m sure that your family loves and misses you, but everyone has their time to go, and it was yours. Besides, it isn’t the destination that is the prize, but the adventure getting there. Or.. something like that.” Sabastian tried. He had heard someone say it and thought it would be the right thing to say. He had never tried to console anyone after a loved one died, he didn’t know how to console the person who died.
He noticed she was about to cry and moved closer to her, wrapping his arms around her. He knew that hugs comforted people. He only hoped that it would work because he didn’t like to see people cry. “We will get through this..I’m sure it will be alright.”

Susan started to sniffle and when he held her she leaned her head against him, her hands still covering her face as she shook her head, "No! No this cant be happening! This cant be happening!" She whimpered.
